Intarsia Large Breaking Waves

Updated: Feb 19, 2022

This square is based on the Large Breaking Wave pattern, but uses a cream colour for the frothy bit of the breaking wave.

Here I have indicated the colour needed for each row by the colour of each grid cell.

Because the cream colour section is reverse stocking stitch, you need to use the cream colour for the stitch on the previous row, it gets a bit complicated!

I also altered the pattern a little to make sure there wasn't a small number of stiches in a colour that wasn't conveniently located.

As with the other squares, an 'x' = purl on a knit row, and knit on a purl row.

This lower chart is the format I found to be most useful to me:

  • White / light green = knit row (right side), grey / darker green = purl row (wrong side).

  • An 'x' = purl on a knit row, and knit on a purl row

  • The numbers are just a handy guide to the number of stitches in each knit or purl block, or each colour block if there is a change in colour.

*Note* this one is not symmetrical - purl rows read from the left!

(k = knit, p=purl)
